Introduction of TWGHs

Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Early Childhood Services

Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (T.W.G.Hs.) is the largest charitable organization with the longest history in Hong Kong. T.W.G.Hs. provides a wide range of services including medical, education and social welfare. Today, T.W.G.Hs. operates over 309 service centres in Hong Kong.
T.W.G.Hs. started to develop day nursery services in 1968, and there have been 15 nursery schools which are registered as Non-Profit-Making Kindergarten-cum-Child Care Centres. Services such as long whole-day care and education services for children under the age of six, Integrated Programme and On-site Preschool Rehabilitation Services are offered for the children with special educational needs. All nursery schools are dedicated to children education according to different developmental stages. This would be beneficial to the build-up on good habits, healthy growth and positive learning attitudes as well as basic abilities of children.

History

1979.7

The school was established in July 1979 under the name of 'TWGHs Kwai Shing Day Nursery' to provide child care and educational services in the western districts of the New Territories.  

1985.9

In September 1985, the school started to operate the integrated programme for mildly disabled children, to provide evaluation, training and caring services for those mildly disabled children referred by the Social Welfare Department.  The professional team of the Social Welfare Department would visit the school on a regular basis to follow up on the children's progress, and advise the teachers and parents to enhance the overall development of the children, facilitating them for a smooth transition to mainstream education and society in the future.  

1995.11

In November 1995, the school was renamed to TWGHs Lions Club of the Peak Hong Kong Nursery School in recognition and appreciation of the donation of HK$250,000 contributed by the Lions Club of the Peak. 

1996.3

In March 1996, the school started the 'Occasional Child Care Service' to help parents solve their temporary child care needs. 

2000.9

In September 2000, the school increased the 'Extended Hours Service' to meet working parents’ needs of longer hours of service.

2005.9

For better facilitation of pre-primary services, the school was registered as a Kindergarten-cum-Child Care Centre under the Education Bureau in September 2005. 

2009

In 2009, the school launched the 'Leap' Body Education Programme co-established by The Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation and the Cloud Gate Dance School in Taiwan.  Classes are available to K2 and K3 students.  Children were able use their bodies to create different motions and movements with the stimulation of different music and drama elements, and learn beauty and arts through games.  The operation of the 'Leap' Body Education Programme has been transferred to TWGHs since 2014.

2015.9

To answer the needs of the community, the school set up a second team of Integrated Programme for Mildly Disabled Children in September 2015. 

2015

In response to the 2015 <Policy Address>, we cooperated with TWGHs <On-site Pre-school Rehabilitation Services – Sunshine Kids> to provide early intervention service for children who were studying and waiting for pre-school rehabilitation services in our school.  

2019.2

In February 2019, the school began providing school-based social work service, helping to increase the teaching and learning effectiveness, and to provide appropriate support, counselling, family visits and referral service to those needy children and parents.  The social worker would organize different seminars and workshops on topics like family relations, parenting skills, emotional counselling, children's growth etc. to help parents understand the needs of their children, so as to establish positive and healthy parent-child relationship.

Facilities

With a gross area of over 640 square metres, school campus is equipped with 6 classrooms.

In each classroom, spaces for promoting interactive learning, exploration and creativity are provided for children. Integrated learning corners, such as dramatic play, reading and writing, art and crafts, construction play, practical life, nature and science, etc. are to build children's interest and potentials in learning.

Furthermore, there are other rooms as indoor big muscle playground, music room, kitchen, children's toilet, principal's room, staff room, laundry and store room, etc.

School Calendar

Our team

Our staff are passionate to nurture young children. The Principal and Early Childhood Practitioner (teachers) are all professionally qualified and fully experienced in early childhood education. Besides, the school social worker provides services for children and their family members,
​​​​​​​including children with social or emotional difficulties.

In addition, visiting Educational/ Clinical Psychologist, Project Officer (Curriculum), Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapist serve as our consultants to give recommendations over lesson plans, teaching techniques and resources.

Staff Training

For continuous professionalism development, teachers participate in various training activities every year. In the past, workshops by the Playright Children's Play Association on free play as an essential element for healthy child development.
